What Our Birmingham Clients Are Saying

As it is a holistic clinic you do not only learn the cognitive tools to deal with your recovery but also learn a vast range of holistic therapies to help you on your journey. If anything is brought up in group that the staff member feels that you have struggled with they are very astute in recognising that and will offer further one to one support after the group. Alternatively if you feel that there is something that has triggered you in group the staff are very approachable for you to ask if you can chat with them later about it. If you are ready to face your demons and get sober this is the place to start 100%.

It is clean, comfortable and most of all the whole team show genuine care and love for you. As ex addicts they they really understand the emotions and issues you are facing. The therapy was fantastic and has helped me to completely understand the way I view my addiction and the recovery process.

It is set up with 6 rooms to give maximum attention to each client. The quality of rooms with ensuite bathrooms make the stay very comfortable. The medical attention is excellent with regular checks throughout the day and night to make sure the clients are comfortable. The owners Tom and Jon are very experienced professionals with a hands on approach. All the staff are dedicated to the wellbeing of their clients.

The classes were brilliant and informative, and I loved the holistic nature of the unit, I learnt a lot about myself whilst there and am continuing to grow. I feel great and its a testament to this unit that has helped me achieve this. Thank you all.

Alcohol Use in Birmingham: Why Local Support Matters

Alcohol-related harm remains a growing concern across Birmingham, with many communities seeing increasing pressure on local services. Rising demand for support means that timely, accessible treatment has never been more important.

Recent national data shows worrying trends:

  • 339,916 alcohol-specific hospital admissions – the highest ever recorded

  • More than 1 million alcohol-related admissions overall

  • 8,274 alcohol-specific deaths, up again from the previous year

These figures reflect the increasing need for effective alcohol treatment nationwide, and Birmingham is no exception. Local NHS community services can provide valuable support, but many people face long waiting lists, limited inpatient options and delays that make it difficult to access detox or structured rehab when it’s urgently needed.

Why This Matters for Birmingham Residents

For people having to wait weeks or months for help, it can make recovery feel out of reach. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous without proper supervision, and many people benefit most from the structured, consistent support only a residential setting can offer.

That’s where The Wellbourne Clinic provides a vital alternative. Located close to Birmingham, our private alcohol rehab clinic offers immediate access to:

  • Medically supervised detox

  • Daily one-to-one and group therapy

  • Holistic treatments and emotional support

  • Structured aftercare planning

With no long waiting lists, Birmingham residents can begin safe, supported recovery as soon as they’re ready, in a calm and private environment.

What Is Alcohol Rehab and How Does It Work?

Alcohol rehab is a structured programme that helps you stop drinking safely while addressing the emotional and behavioural reasons behind alcohol use. At The Wellbourne Clinic, located near Birmingham, our treatment combines medical detox with personalised therapeutic support to give you the best chance of long-term recovery.

Rehab typically begins with a medically supervised detox, where you’ll be supported through withdrawal under 24/7 clinical care. Medications such as Librium may be used when appropriate to keep you safe and comfortable. This immediate access is especially useful for those seeking private alcohol rehab Birmingham or same day rehab Birmingham.

Following detox, treatment continues with a tailored programme of therapy, including one-to-one counselling, group sessions and evidence-based approaches like CBT, SMART Recovery and 12-step work. You’ll also learn about triggers, coping strategies and relapse prevention.

Whether you’re coming from Edgbaston, Harborne, Moseley, Kings Heath, Sutton Coldfield or Bournville, our private residential setting offers the space, support and expert care you need to rebuild your life and begin lasting recovery.

Our Alcohol Addiction Treatment Approach

Lasting recovery involves more than completing a detox, it requires addressing the physical, emotional and behavioural sides of addiction. Our alcohol rehab near Birmingham offers a structured, personalised pathway designed to help you achieve long-term change.

NHS vs Private Rehab in Birmingham - Which Is Right for You?

If you’re searching for alcohol rehab in Birmingham, you’ll usually come across two main options: NHS-funded services and private residential rehab. Both can be effective, but the right choice depends on your needs, the level of support you want and how quickly you need help.

NHS Alcohol Services in Birmingham

Birmingham offers NHS addiction support through services such as Change Grow Live (CGL) and other community-based programmes. These services provide free help, including outpatient counselling, harm reduction advice and community detox support.

However, Birmingham has one of the highest rates of alcohol-related harm in the West Midlands, meaning local NHS services are often very busy. This can lead to long waiting times for detox or structured treatment, which may delay access to the support some people need urgently.

Private Alcohol Rehab Near Birmingham

Private rehab provides fast access to personalised, residential treatment in a calm and structured environment. At The Wellbourne Clinic, clients can begin medically supervised detox within days and receive round-the-clock care throughout their stay.

Our private alcohol rehab near Birmingham includes:

  • 24/7 medically supported detox

  • Daily therapy, including CBT and group therapy

  • Support for mental health and emotional wellbeing

  • Family involvement and full aftercare planning

With a small number of clients at one time, you receive focused, one-to-one attention and a level of support that can be difficult to access through community services alone.

Birmingham FAQs

Is there free alcohol rehab available in Birmingham?

There are free alcohol support services available through the NHS and local authority services in Birmingham.

These services often provide outpatient support such as keyworker sessions, counselling and group programmes. However, waiting times can vary, and residential detox is not always immediately available. For those seeking more immediate or intensive support, private rehab is an alternative option.

Do I need a referral to go to rehab?

No, you do not need a GP or NHS referral to access private rehab.

You can contact the clinic directly to discuss your situation and arrange an assessment. This allows you to access support more quickly, without needing to go through additional steps or waiting lists.

What is the difference between rehab and detox?

Detox and rehab are often part of the same process, but they serve different purposes.

A detox focuses on safely managing withdrawal symptoms as your body adjusts to stopping alcohol. Rehab then focuses on therapy, behaviour change and addressing the underlying causes of drinking. For many people, both stages are included within a residential programme.

Can I go to rehab outside of Birmingham but still stay connected to home?

Yes. Many people choose to attend rehab just outside of Birmingham so they can step away from their usual environment while still remaining close to home.

This approach allows you to remove yourself from day-to-day triggers and distractions, while still being within reach of family, support networks and familiar surroundings. It often provides a good balance between distance and accessibility.

Will I be supported when returning to daily life in Birmingham?

Yes. Before completing treatment, a structured aftercare plan is put in place to support your return to Birmingham.

This may include ongoing therapy, support groups and practical strategies to help you manage triggers and maintain progress in your everyday life.

Having just left the Wellbourne clinic after a six week stay. I can't thank the staff enough. Every part about the programme was engaging and has been invaluable to my recovery. A fantastically run centre with amazing staff. Thank you so much.

A very warm, welcoming place where patients are treated with respect. All the staff are compassionate and provide an excellent level of care. The treatment is very holistic and therapy led, and puts the individual at the heart of the work. The facilities are excellent and provide a lovely, family feel environment for patients. Thank you to all the staff for supporting our loved one through a very difficult time.

Kate HGoogle Review

Excellent place, warm and friendly welcome followed by intimate but totally non judgemental care and support. Also, highly professional use of appropriate medication. By far better than a previous experience I had, it's more like being in someone's house than a stay at a clinic, but with all the proper care included. Highly recommend
